UFOs, Flying Saints, Wild Facts, Knowing Things
Just a quick note that my old Plough book column is back, with a consideration of a new book about the Barney and Betty Hill UFO kidnapping incident, Carlos Eire’s They Flew, and Zadie Smith’s The Fraud. It is my bad luck that I’m incredibly good at writing in a form — the book review — that has limited prestige or staying power. Or I could flip that on its head and say: It’s great luck that I’m good at writing something at all. In any case, I hope to get back to writing that column regularly, as I did during 2020-21; it’s a lot of work but it’s also a lot of fun.
For any readers in the Ann Arbor area, I’ll be interviewing the fantastic Becca Rothfeld about her essay collection All Things Are Too Small tonight at Literati at 6:30. I was a fan already but the cumulative impression of several Becca Rothfeld essays back to back is really something.
